Grand Sphere (iOS)

Aside from its battle system, Grand Sphere is just another freemium RPG with anime-styled art.

Grand Sphere adds variety, strategy, and luck to the tired turn-based battle design with the sphere system. Spheres are magic orbs that are randomly received after each turn in battle. Spheres have many different effects that range from healing and buffing your heroes to unleashing powerful defense piercing attacks.

As the game's namesake, spheres are an important part of every battle. Unfortunately, this means luck also plays a strong role in every battle. Regardless, spheres are still a unique and enjoyable battle system.

The remainder of the core design and controls are simple, easy to use, and typical. Players control five heroes. Heroes can be freely rearranged and will attack in order from left to right. Each round a hero can be ordered to attack, special attack (if charged), or use a sphere.

Grand Sphere also allows players to view full screen versions of all the card artwork in their collection.

While it isn't groundbreaking, Grand Sphere is worth trying if your looking for your next mobile freemium fix.

Summary:
  • + sphere system
  • + nice art
  • + card gallery
  • • freemium model
  • - crazy RNG
